We’re in the Endgame, now…

Some of you may think it most amazing coincidence that this week kicked off with my writing at length about the EHRC: others may note that jane usually knows what is going on and, as in this case, bad news on the EHRC front has been brewing for some while.

Still, the news is nowhere near as bad as it might be; and far from being cause for despair, it must now act as rallying call. To the trans community. To the wider LGBT and feminist world.

Because this is the Endgame. This is where the assorted terfs and gender crits and trans-haters, a chunk of the commentariat and likely, too, the Equalities Minister has always wanted to arrive.

It begins…

…with a series of pieces in Vice, building up to this afternoon’s shocking revelation that the Chair of that body, Baroness Falkner, has a personal axe to grind in respect of trans people. She would like, Vice reveals, to exclude trans people in England (and maybe Wales, too) from single-sex spaces unless they have a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC).

Ow! There are no words too strong to describe this. It would, for the majority of binary trans people — male and female alike — condemn us to a form of house…
