A poem for Trans Day of Visibility

Today is Trans Day of Visibility. And so a short piece on why it is that despite the fact that the dearest wish of many, many trans people would be, simply, to fade into the background, we are still asking for people to see us.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

If I were invisible, i’d steal.

Of course i would. From Greggs,

For starters — and for breakfast –

Knowing that with each and every ill-begotten bite

I was that much closer to my life-time dream

A mortgage, built on bricks and sausage rolls

Unpaid for.

And then, for afters, i’d sneak across the globe

Tweaking here and there the tails of every great and powerful.

I’d dare the bed of Donald Trump.

Alright. I’d wrap up well before.

Because although invisible from sight protects

It cannot ward the taint of damp corruption

And piss.

I’d brave the boudoir of our modern Casanove
