It’s not fair!
Fairness is one of those things, like motherhood and apple pie, that no-one can be against. Right! Right? Unless, of course you are allergic to apples. But that’s a whole different tarte tatin.
Like all clichés, there is a grain of truth here. Also, much flummery. Snake oil, too. Because ‘fairness’ is at best a difficult concept. At worst, a smokescreen, which ‘commonsense’ legislators use to poke holes in our most basic of values.
Including equality for women.

The right-wing press, the outrage press, love a good unfairness story. Mumsnet, too. If your neighbour has parked a bumper two inches over your drive, it is unfair! Waaaah! Watch the ickles throw their toys out of the pram. Watch, too, as commenters propose, in a spirit of Christian reconciliation, the laying of tacks on your drive. That’ll make them repent!
OK. It might also make them crash, killing and injuring sundry bystanders. But that’s OK. Because taking a stand against unfairness and cheeky fuckery trumps all.
