On huffing and puffing — and hufflepuffs
Last week, the Scottish parliament passed legislation to amend the Gender Recognition Act. Much shenanigans in Parliament before and after the vote. And if hurried statements by members of the UK gov are to be credited, more to come.

In the days leading up to Christmas, the Scottish parliament amended their gender recognition process to will make life a little easier for trans people. Sadly, not all trans, because there is still no provision for non-binary folks.
Though, allegedly, they will now move to look at doing something there. Hallelujah!
Key provisions include what the London media have dubbed “self-id”, removal of the requirement for a medical diagnosis, and a right for 16- and 17-year-olds to access legal gender change. It’s a start.
Of course, parliamentary arithmetic meant it was always unlikely that it would fail, once it finally got to a vote. That did not stop opponents from pulling every trick in the book — some ordinary, some extraordinarily duplicitous — in their attempts to derail it.
