A couple of weeks back, i posted a debunk of some rather wild claims about trans women committing rape. Unfortunately, the claim was in the form of a dead cat — a simple assertion, with very little substantiation — while the rebuttal takes a bit more. In this case, around 5,000 words of closely argued, referenced rebuttal.

Some folks have protested this is too much and needs a management summary. Sadly, they are right. Assertion is easy. Rebuttal takes longer. But here is the outline of that rebuttal.

Claim

In late 2021, a claim started to circulate, that in the period 2011–2018 some 436 women were charged with rape. Since only those with a penis could be so charged, the accompanying theory was that these were 436 trans women.

In fact, it is possible for a cis woman to be charged with rape on grounds that they are an accessory. The original claim acknowledged that some of this total could have come from cis women being charged as accessories. However, this explanation was quickly dismissed, in favour of a claim that those making the claim could find few instances of such cases. So they…
